Joshua J. Joseph Appointed Deputy Director of CTSI

We are pleased to announce Joshua J. Joseph, MD, MPH, FAHA, ASCI, as the new deputy director of The Ohio State University Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). In this role, Dr. Joseph will partner with CTSI leadership to drive strategic initiatives and deepen partnerships with state and local government, further strengthening the CTSI’s commitment to impactful, community-oriented research.

Concurrent with this appointment in the CTSI, Dr. Joseph serves as Associate Professor of Internal Medicine with Tenure and Endowed Professor for Research in Internal Medicine within the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Prior to joining the Wexner Medical Center, he founded and directed the Yale Primary Care Center Weight Management and Wellness Clinic and served as an Instructor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine.

A highly respected endocrinologist, Dr. Joseph’s research specialization is in diabetes and preventing chronic disease through community-based interventions. He has secured over 45 million dollars in research funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the U.S. Department of Defense. He currently leads a national $15 million project within the American Heart Association’s Strategically Focused Research Network on Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Syndrome in Women, aiming to uncover why women are at increased risk due to unique life stages and factors.

Dr. Joseph’s scientific and community engagement expertise is highlighted by his role as co-founder and medical director of The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Healthy Community Center, which focuses on nutrition, physical and mental wellness in Columbus and provides community members a place to build connections and find the health information and support they need to create and sustain lifelong healthy habits. Dr. Joseph also founded the ACCELERATE Research Group, whose work aids in the mission to advance cardiometabolic health for all and has been featured on many national and international platforms, including Time, CBS News, NBC News, ABC News and PBS Newshour.

In addition to his research and community-driven work, Dr. Joseph has served as a keynote speaker at numerous national conferences on heart health, diabetes and community engagement. Notably, he was a featured speaker at the White House’s Inflation Reduction Act Insulin Event, advocating for insulin affordability and policy change as part of the Endocrine Society, in which he is an active member. He serves as President of the Central Ohio American Heart Association Board and Member of the Board of Columbus Public Health.  

Dr. Joseph’s dedication to community health, research and education is reflected in numerous honors, including induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and American Society for Clinical Investigation. He has also received The Ohio State University Early Career Distinguished Scholar Award and Community Engaged Scholar Award, as well as the Endocrine Society’s 2024 Richard E. Weitzman Outstanding Early Career Investigator Award, Columbus Education Association Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award and the “Philanthropist of the Year” Pillar Award for Community Service.
